Plan a remodel, a repair or a new deck with a team that has already built in Farragut. We rebuilt a rotted deck here in low-maintenance composite, and we bring the same planning to kitchens, bathrooms, additions, basements and repairs for Farragut homes.

A Farragut Deck, Rebuilt to Last
The deck had given out to rot, and the cause was easy to miss. Tile had been carried from the house out onto the deck with nowhere for water to drain, so water sat on the structure until the wood failed. We found that first, because a new deck built the same way would fail the same way.
Where the area is covered, a seamless cut joins the existing surface to the new one. Where it is open to the weather, the deck now transitions into composite, which holds up to sun and rain with little upkeep. New railings, a light wired into every step and a wall between the steps and the deck, with storage built in underneath, finished the work.
It is one of the first projects completed under the Master Hand Construction Services name.

Explore Home RepairsHow Farragut Permits a Deck
Inside the town limits, building permits and inspections come from the Town of Farragut, which publishes its own requirements for decks. Here is what they say, so the plan accounts for them from the start.

When does a deck need a permit in Farragut?
The Town calls for a building permit to build a new deck, to replace an old one or to repair one. Structural work needs a permit too, including replacing stairs, handrails, guardrails, floor joists, posts or beams.
What does the Town ask to see?
The application includes a site plan that shows where the deck sits on the property and how far it is from each property line, and building plans that show the size and spacing of the joists, beams and posts, the footings, and how the deck attaches to the house or stands on its own.
A contractor applying also provides a copy of its license, its general liability insurance and a workers’ compensation certificate that names the Town as certificate holder. You can request our licensing and insurance documentation for your project.
Which inspections does a deck get?
The Town lists three inspections for a deck: the footings, the rough framing and a final inspection, with more if the project calls for them.
Electrical work, such as lighting wired into the steps, is permitted and inspected through the State Electrical Inspector, and those inspections come before the Town’s rough-in and final inspections.
Is a covered deck or a screened porch different?
Yes. The Town’s deck permit covers uncovered decks only. A covered deck, a screened porch, a covered patio or a sunroom is permitted as a residential addition, the kind of project our home additions work covers.
The Town notes that its requirements can change and that each project is reviewed on its own, so confirm the current rules with the Town of Farragut before work begins.
Farragut Project Questions
Start with the details that matter to your home. We can talk through the specifics of your project together.
Ask Our TeamDo you work in Farragut, TN?
Yes. Farragut is in Knox County, which we serve from Oak Ridge, and we have already rebuilt a deck here. Share your address and the work you have in mind, and our team will confirm availability.
Do I need a permit to replace a deck in Farragut?
According to the Town of Farragut’s published requirements, yes. Building a new deck, replacing one or repairing one needs a building permit, and so does structural work such as replacing stairs, railings, joists, posts or beams. Confirm the current rules with the Town before work begins.
Who inspects lighting wired into deck steps in Farragut?
Electrical work is permitted and inspected through the State Electrical Inspector, and the Town asks for those inspections to be completed before its own rough-in and final inspections.
Is a covered deck or a screened porch permitted differently in Farragut?
Yes. The Town’s deck permit is for uncovered decks only. A covered deck, a screened porch, a covered patio or a sunroom is permitted as a residential addition instead.
Why did the Farragut deck rot?
Tile had been carried from the house out onto the deck with nowhere for water to drain, so water sat on the structure until the wood gave out. The rebuild was planned so the same thing would not happen again.
Can you remodel a kitchen or a bathroom in Farragut?
Yes. Along with decks, we plan bathroom and kitchen remodels, home additions, basement finishing, interior design and home repairs for homes in Farragut.
